What you need to know and do

Russian law requires all residence permit holders to actively confirm their continued residence once a year. This is not a renewal — it is a recurring compliance obligation that exists for the entire duration of the permit and must be met on time.

  Annual deadline — no exceptions

  The notification must be filed within two months of each anniversary of the permit (RVP) or of the VNJ issuance date. The clock runs from the exact calendar date, and there is no grace period under the law.

  What the notification confirms

  The filing confirms that you continue to reside in Russia and that your income for the preceding twelve months meets or exceeds the regional subsistence minimum. Both the fact of residence and the income threshold are verified.

  Required documents

  Core documents: completed notification form, valid foreign passport, and income evidence for the past twelve months — typically payslips, tax declaration, or bank statements showing regular income. Some categories may use alternative income confirmation. Exact requirements can vary by region.

  Online via Gosuslugi or in person

  Both the RVP notification and VNJ confirmation can be submitted through the Gosuslugi portal (verified account required) or at an МВД office or МФЦ service centre in person. Online submission saves time but requires the documents to be correctly prepared and uploaded.

  Consequences of missing the deadline

  A missed or late notification is an administrative offence. Consequences can include a fine and, in cases of repeated or wilful non-compliance, cancellation of the residence permit. If a deadline has already been missed, filing as soon as possible and taking advice on the situation is strongly advisable.
