Volga Federal District of the Russian Federation

Chuvashia
Chuvashia is situated in the east of the East European Plain, between the Sura and the Sviyaga, tributaries of the Volga. It has the area of 18,300 sq. km; its population amounted as of the beginning of 2009 to 1.2 million, 57% of which resided in towns and cities.
Kirov Region
The Kirov Region was established in 1936. Its area amounts to 120 thousand sq. km, its population to 1.413 million, 72% of which live in the towns and cities. Besides the Russians, who are the majority in the region, there also live the Tatars, the Gipsy, the Komi, and others.
Nizhny Novgorod Region
The Nizhny Novgorod Region is situated in the central part of the Russian Federation. It was established in 1929. Its area is 76,900 sq. km, and its population – 3.340 million, of which almost 80% are living in towns and cities.
Orenburg Region

The territory is situated in the Moscow +2 time zone. 71% of its territory is covered with forests. Both plains and mountainous relief are represented in the territory of the Territory.

The Samara Region is a part of the Volga Federal District. Its area is 53,600 sq. km, which amounts to 0.31% of the territory of Russia; its population is 3.171 million, 80% of which are urban inhabitants. A portion of the territory of the region has the status of a near-border territory owing to its proximity to Kazakhstan.
Saratov Region
The Saratov Region is a part of the Volga Federal District. Its area is 100 thousand sq. km, its population amounts to 2.6 million. The region is situated in the Moscow time zone.
Udmurtia
Udmurtia was established in 1920. Its area amounts to 42 thousand sq. km, its population – to 1.5 million. It is situated in the Moscow +1 time zone. The official languages are the Russian language and the Udmurt language.
Ulyanovsk Region
The Ulyanovsk Region was established in 1943. Its area amounts to 37,300 square kilometers, its population - to 1.3 million. The region is situated in the Moscow time zone.
